Subject: Implementation of New Syllabi for Grades 3 and 6 as per NCF-SE 2023

Dear Madam,

Following our meeting on the 14th of March 2024, 1 am pleased to inform you that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will release the new syllabi for Grades 3 and 6 in line with the recommendations of the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF- SEJ 2023 for the upcoming academic session 2024-25. These grades mark the commencement of the preparatory and middle stages, respectively.

Alongside, NCERT will provide the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) with a syllabus bridge programme for Grade 6 and succinct guidelines for Grade 3. This initiative is aimed at facilitating a seamless transition for students to new pedagogical perspectives and areas of study, particularly Arts, Physical Education, Vocational Education, and The World Around Us (for Grade 3), for which activity-books/textbooks are being developed with new perspectives aligned with NCF-SE 2023.

We request that CBSE proactively communicate this development to their school heads, teachers, and parents. We advise the formulation of a strategy to engage students of Grades 3 and 6 in playful and activity-based learning at the start of the new academic year, ensuring a holistic environment that encompasses arts, physical education, and well-being, skill education, and fresh insights into language, mathematics, science, environmental education, and social sciences.

This approach is not only expected to ease the students' adaptation to the new curriculum but also aims to generate awareness about the updated educational perspectives among parents and the wider community. Consequently, it will necessitate a revision of school timetables. Therefore, it is crucial to inform School Heads, Teachers, and Parents about the suggested time allocations for Grades 3 and 6 as per the NCF-SE 2023, and to encourage schools to adapt their schedules in accordance with the local needs and the specific context in which they operate.

CBSE's prompt action on this matter in collaboration with KVS and NVS would be highly appreciated. The joint efforts of NCERT, CBSE, KVS, and NVS, under the guidance of the Department

of School Education and Literacy (DoS&L), the National Syllabus and Teaching-learning Material Committee (NSTC), and the National Curriculum Framework Oversight Committee (NOC), are integral to fulfill the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for school education.
